
John-Paul Hussey was born of Irish parents in Zambia and brought up Bahrain, The Sudan and Thailand while going to boarding school in Ireland. He is a graduate of the VCA in Theatre Making. His writing credits include adaptations of Bulgakov's The Heart Of The Dog (Universal 1998) & Master & Margarita (MTC Wings Program 2002) and original work including Uncle Pho & The Laughing Cow (Universal Theatre 1998)'Ottello a Subversion (Theatreworks 1995); The Desert Architect (VCA 1994). He is most of all known for his one man monkey shows Chocolate Monkey (2002) & Spacemunki (2004), he has received two Green Room nominations for Chocolate Monkey: Best Show and Best Male Actor and was named Best Show of The Year by ABC Radio National.
John-Paul has taught creative writing at Melbourne University and has a cabaret act/MC Soviet Boyfriend @ The Famous Spiegel Tent, Dublin & Butterfly Club, The Falls Festival (2007 & 8) Spacemunki returned for Melbourne Fringe 2007, winning The Melbourne International Festival Prize. Love Monkey was produced in June 2008 to critical acclaim and a tour is being planned to Europe and New York in 2009.
